Subsurface Computer Modeling, Inc.Grid Solutions I - Optimized Gridding
Duration: One (1) day
Class Type: Short lectures with many exercises on the computer
Who is qualified: Experienced Z-MAP Plus users (an intro Z-MAP Plus course and at least TWO MONTHS of strong hands-on experience
Who should attend: Any Z-MAP Plus user who:
  • Must build a surface model
  • Works with data from different sources
  • Spends 80% of mapping time in the editor fixing grids that are only 20% correct
  • Has been totally confused by the number of parameters available in the gridding algorithms
  • Wonders which of the "other" gridding procedures should be used
What will they Learn:
PROBLEM
SOLUTION
Default gridding parameters produce unacceptable output
Use tools that properly default the most commonly used parameters
Algorithms, even with optimal parameter settings, do not create acceptable output grids
Use tools that focus on data type and surface form; select the appropriate algorithm
The broad range of data types and distributions makes the gridding process confusing
Use a workflow appropriate for the data type
The broad range of surface forms makes the gridding process confusing
Use a workflow appropriate for the surface form
Overview:

Grid Solutions I is a one-day course designed to help computer mappers develop surface models that are 80% correct. The presentation emphasizes an analysis of data type, surface form and desired result when picking the workflow and tool to use when building the grid. The student is taught what to expect from each gridding workflow and when to stop gridding and to start tuning the created grid (see Grid Solutions II).

Workflows are used throughout.

The workflows are simplified by using a set of macros that present only required gridding parameters and use "proper" parameter defaults.

The course format consists of short introductory lectures interspersed with lab sessions demonstrating the use of the workflows and tools.
